How to hire a professional property photographer

Why you should hire a Professional Property Photographer?

The idea to write this blog came to me after a number of questions asked by one of my clients. He wanted to know more about the ways I deliver my professional  property photography.

Mostly I work in Northampton and across the Northamptonshire, Bedford and Milton Keynes areas. It is also possible to take commissions from London based clients, as I live in an easy commuting distance to London.

Presumably  many people who have never hired a professional photographer would have the same questions.

Nowadays technological progress allows every one of us to take photographs on the spot, with our mobiles.

One type of photograph you can’t take with your mobile is Life Style photography. Here, I am talking about professional photography for your property. Whether you are looking for a professional property photographer for your interior or a commercial photographer for your expensive car or for your goods that you sell online, you should entrust this task to a professional photographer.

When you are ready to sell your house, you carefully choose an estate agent. He would take a decent cut from the final sales price.

You would obviously count on his best way of visually presenting your property.

The main idea for the photographs to SELL your home. It is a well known fact that good quality photographs speak volumes! But what do you often get instead? Quite often estate agents, in order to save expenses, try to take photographs of your houses themselves. It often results in mediocre, non-appealing dull photographs.

How professional photography is different from the amateur one?

What do professional photographers actually do?

They would:

–Evaluate the most important selling point of your home or office

–Present your property in the most appealing way for your potential buyers;

— Take decision about the light source and clever usage of your space.

–See the shot where others won’t even pay attention;

–Add or remove items, where necessary in order to make the shot more attractive

– Do some “staging” in professional photographers jargon.

(I usually use my artistic acumen and expertise to make necessary re-arrangements).

–Professional post production and retouching;

— Spend very often long hours perfecting an image of the interior or exterior of your house.

Decided to choose a professional photographer yourself?

Here are some questions you can ask to be sure you are happy with your choice:

                — Question about their experience of photographing properties,

                     you many also ask to show you their portfolio of previously taken images.

                    Which of his/her own images your photographer would particularly appreciate?

                — Read photographer’s previous clients’ references.

                 — Ask which areas of property photography he/she as a photographer covers

If a photographer came to see your house for a preliminary free consultation

            — ask about their opinion of the best feature of your interior

            — ask  about their terms of working from legal point of view, do they have a standard contract etc.

            — discuss your project in more detail, including photographer’s fees,

             — how the payment will be delivered and other project related expenses.

             — how long would your property project take – each photographer has his own time brackets.

             — discuss the final images – would he/she provide them as files or in a printed form.

Some photographers would only provide printed photographs. It often applies to any other type of photography though.

Let him/her know what is the purpose of the photoshoot that you are commissioning:

Would you like the photographs for your websites or to promote your property online?

Are you going to use it on social media platforms?

Perhaps you just need one photograph for your banner ?

Ask if you need to make some special arrangement around your house. You may only re-arrange a particular room before the photo shoot begins.

It can involve de-cluttering, re-arranging furniture etc.

I hope this information would facilitate your first communications with a photographer.

Hopefully it will eventually result in beautiful images to your highest satisfaction.
